Coaching Agreement

This section outlines a proposal on how we will work together when you book coaching. We can discuss in more details when we meet. We will both adhere to the coaching agreement outlined here. If there is something that you wish to discuss, please let me know so we can both reach an agreement. I hope that nothing contained here is controversial. When engaging in a formal coaching assignment we will both sign a Coaching Agreement.

WHAT IS COACHING?

Coaching is a human development process that involves structured, focused interaction and the use of appropriate strategies, tools and techniques to promote desirable and sustainable change for the benefit of the coachee. It is a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires the coachee to maximise personal and professional potential. It is designed to facilitate the creation/development of personal, professional or business goals and to develop and carry out a strategy/plan for achieving those goals.

In the coaching relationship, the coachee is the one that owns the goals. The coachee is the one that is their own best expert, and responsible for carrying out the agreed action. The coach is there to support the coachee through the process, and the coachee is the one with ultimate responsibility for what arises from the coaching process.

WORKING TOGETHER

Coaching is a partnership of equals. We will agree goals together in the first few sessions, and will review these on a regular basis.

We will meet as per schedule outline below. At the end of the sessions we will review progress and our partnership, and decide whether you wish to have further sessions. Either of us can chose to end the coaching relationship at any time.

Both of us will prepare for the sessions, will be on time, will not use computers for any purposes other than coaching during the session, will have devices switched to silent, and will be located in a quiet area as far as possible. We will ensure that we have fully working IT in advance. After the session, we will both individually reflect on how the session went.

Both of us will respect each other’s personal characteristics, and act in an inclusive, non-discriminatory, non-judgemental fashion.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM ME

My biography outlines my coaching style. I blend and a variety of techniques that I hope are best suited to help you with your goals. My role is to offer support, listen, ask questions, provide honest feedback, and suggest activities/exercises to help you achieve your goals. I don't tell you what to do, I support you so that you can determine your own aims and actions.

I am acting as your coach, and not therapist, counsellor, advisor, doctor, manager, lawyer, accountant, or financial advisor. In this relationship, I work as coach and not as a medical professional.

I will work with you during the mutually agreed coaching sessions. If you have a simple email query I will do my best to answer it, but for anything more I will ask that we arrange to meet in person or virtually; this may involve bringing a planned coaching session forwards.

I have the necessary skills and expertise to provide coaching. I maintain the ethics and standards outlined in “The Global Code of Ethics for Coaches, Mentors and Supervisors”. I maintain appropriate membership of a professional coaching body, as well as public liability insurance.

If your needs are beyond what I can offer, I will suggest that you seek an alternative coach or other professional.

WHAT I EXPECT FROM YOU

The power of the coaching relationship lies firmly with you. The more that you put into the coaching process, the more you will get out. You are solely responsible for creating and implementing your own physical, mental and emotional well-being, decisions, choices, actions and results arising out of or resulting from the coaching relationship. As such, you agree that I am not and will not be liable or responsible for any actions or inaction, or for any direct or indirect result of any services provided by me.

You acknowledges that coaching is a comprehensive process that may involve different areas of your life, including work, finances, health, relationships, education and recreation. You agree that deciding how to handle these issues, incorporate coaching principles into those areas and implementing choices is exclusively your responsibility.

In order to enhance the coaching relationship, I invite you to be honest with me and open to feedback. You will tell me what is or isn’t working for you and give me feedback, as this in turn will enable me to support you better. If you wish to focus on a different goal, or need more or less support or challenge, you will let me know.

I will be expecting feedback from you, including suggestions that may challenge me to work in a way that suits you better. I will send you a simple form to complete after each session and would ask for this to be returned to me within 7 days.

You will be responsible for making brief notes and actions arising from each session.

All materials and resources provided to you during the coaching assignment will not be used for any purpose other than your own.

PRIVACY AND CONFIDENTIALITY

Privacy and confidentiality are extremely important to us both, and we will both respect it. I adhere to “The Global Code of Ethics for Coaches, Mentors and Supervisors”, which guides me to “maintain  the  strictest  level  of  confidentiality  with  all  client  and  sponsor information unless release of information is required by law”. There may be occasions when I am concerned about your welfare or that of another person, or when I have a duty of care to disclose information, or when I am concerned about professional misconduct, or when a conflict arises as a result of obligations placed on me by the General Medical Council. If that occurs, I will discuss my concerns with you in the first instance, to try and agree a way forward with you. Only as a last resort and in extreme circumstances will I contact another party, and even then anonymously if possible.

Information that I hold about you will be stored on a password protected computer. Coaching agreements and invoices will contain your full name, but other coaching materials/notes or my own reflections will only refer to you using a code.

My own coaching supervision and training are key aspect of my practice. I may ask for your permission to record (voice or video) the session, to help me review my practice either alone or with a supervisor; I will discuss this with you in advance and specifically seek permission, and you will be able to decline. Supervision and coach training are themselves confidential relationships. I will only refer to you using a code in supervisory reviews, with exception of names contained in any recorded sessions.

I will keep the coaching agreement and any invoices for 7 years after coaching assignment ends. I will keep coaching session notes / actions / exercises / records for 2 years after the coaching ends. I will keep my own reflections indefinitely.

If we meet outside of the coaching relationship, we will acknowledge and greet each other if appropriate/relevant, but will not engage in discussions around coaching.

CANCELLATION AND TERMINATION

I ask that you notify me at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel. Otherwise the session may be charged in full.

The coaching agreement can be terminated by either one of us at any stage. In the event of termination, coaching package fees are non-refundable.

I look forwards to working with you. I wish you a happy and productive coaching experience.
